Avalakki Uppittu / Aval upama/ Pohe upama

     In school one of my friend used to bring this in her lunch box and her mom used to prepare so tastily when I went home used to ask my mom to make my mom had no clue except that it had reddinsh orange color to appease me she made regular uppittu by adding chilli powder but I am no fan of uppittu I run miles from it so I gave up asking my mom...
     After marriage I happened to find a cookery book in my aunts place there the author had written about this recipe .... I thought it might tbe the one I craved for during my school days so I noted the recipe and tried at home... First few times it was disaster and at one point it came out so yummy from then onwards whenever I make it ..it has come out yummy so I present this one to you...


Note : Thickker the avalakki the better ...

Ingredients:
1 1/2 cup      Avalakki (rice flakes)
1tsp              Tamarind paste
1 big pinch   Jaggery powdered
1tbsp            Dry coconut
1 1/2 tbsp     Red chilli powder
1/4tsp           Turmeric
1/4 tsp          Fennel seeds (saunf)
1 to 2 tbsp    Peanuts
1 tsp             Coriander powder
1  no             Onion (medium sized)
1 sprig          Curry leaves

1 tbsp           oil
to taste         salt
to Garnish   Coriander leaves
Tempering Ingredients:  Mustard seeds,cumin seeds, whole red chilly
Method:
      Sieve the riceflakes to remove excess powder and stones if any.... Pulse it in mixie for 2 or 3 pulse so that you get coarse rava...
take care not to powder it finely.....It should be in rava or lapsi consistency...
     In a bowl add tamarind paste, jaggary powder and 1 cup water mix well add the rice flake rava mix it to thick dosa batter consistency by adding more water if required...cover ... Set it aside for 15 min... Then crumble it ...
Chop onion heat oil in a pan temper with given ingredients add onion when they turn pink add fennel seeds saute for a min ...add all the powders and salt saute a minute add the crumbled riceflake rava mix well finally add grated dry coconut....mix well garnish with coriander leaves and serve hot...

    If you want tangier you can add some more tamarind paste....
